At Kandy Spices, we prioritize knowing the origin and journey of our spices from local farmers to spice racks in Danish homes. Our spices are cultivated by small family farms in wild forest gardens near Kandy, Sri Lanka, using the traditional 'Kandyan Forest Garden method' without artificial fertilizers or additives. Every spice is 100% naturally and sustainably grown in a way that supports biodiversity.
The spices grown in the forest gardens on the hillsides around Kandy are part of a unique ecosystem where different plants and trees grow in interaction, using the Kandyan Forest Garden system practiced for centuries. This method results in chemical-free, sustainable spices of the highest quality with fantastic aroma and taste.

We believe that the trade of high quality spices must align with principles of social and environmental sustainability to truly earn the definition "high quality". Therefore we work closely with local spice farmers and visit them regularly to maintain a good relationship and learn about the spices, seasons, and growing methods. By minimizing intermediaries and often dealing directly with farmers, we ensure quality control and fair prices for their products.

Some of our spices

We source the spices according to the annual harvest cycles, and buy the spices as they reach peak ripeness to ensure the highest quality of aroma. Each spice is carefully handpicked and the ground spices are grinded just before shipping to ensure maximum freshness. This process results in very potent spices with a deep, intense scent and flavor.
